Ted Yates was among the most honored and respected of television's news documentary filmmakers. He was known as a tenacious reporter and producer. Born as Frederick Langdon Yates Jr., he was a pioneer in television documentary, with an intimate understanding of the medium's visual power. During a tribute broadcast following his death, his colleagues described him as "not a daredevil but a dedicated professional."
